The Livonia Rotary Club presented its first Vocational Service Award for 2019 to Gabriel Quigley, who is a senior at Churchill High School who attends the Construction Trades program at the Livonia Career Technical Center.

The Award is given to a Livonia high school student who has made a commitment to earning vocational job placement skills while completing their academic education. It is for students who demonstrate honesty in work, life and school.  It is for students who have the ability to lead and be a part of a work team where the needs of the other members of the work team come before their own personal needs. The award is given for vocational excellence and high ethical standards in the work place and schools.

The award is based on four of the Rotary Vocational Service goals: 1) A career development program including career planning and youth development, 2) The development of vocational awareness in our youth, 3) The building of character in the workplace though the use of the concepts and ideals found in the Rotary Four Way Test, and 4) the recognizing of a community organization for its Vocational training efforts,

The Livonia Career Technical Center is the community organization that was recognized along with Gabe. Principal Joe Anderson and the Construction Trades Instructor, Mr. Martin, were in attendance and recognized by the Rotary Club.  Mr. Martin was recently named the Instructional Trades teacher of the year in Michigan. In addition, Gabe’s proud parents, Donna and Jon Quigley were in attendance and were recognized regarding their contribution to his success..

Mr. Martin had these things to say about his student, “Gabe is a second-year Construction student at the Livonia Career and Technical Center. Traits that come to mind when describing Gabe are kind, self-motivated, hardworking, and skilled. Over the past year his skills have developed from entry level to advance level. He is currently a student Forman in the Construction II program. While enrolled at LCTC, he has earned and is working toward many certifications. The most notable are OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and the 60 hour Michigan Residential Builders Pre Licensure Certification. Gabe has great attendance, maintained a very respectable grade point average, and is a role model for our program with his character and citizenship.”

Outside of school, Gabe has interest in real estate, rental properties, home repair, and home construction. He has already completed his Certification to become a licensed real estate agent and is working toward his commercial real estate designation (CCIM). Gabe’s academic preparation, high intellect, outstanding character, and hard work are all tools that The Livonia Rotary Club believes will carry him to a bright and successful future.

The Livonia Rotary Club meets at noon on Mondays at Zukins Rib Shack on 5 Mile.  Lunch is $14. Rotary is a community based organization. Learn more about them on their website or Facebook, The Livonia Rotary Club.
