The school year has started off with a hop, skip and a jump at Niji-Iro Elementary School.

The K-6 Japanese-English dual immersion school prides itself on hosting fun events and activities that are traditions in both America and in Japan. Undoukai, or “sports day,” is one of the popular events that draws students and plenty of spectators each year at Niji-Iro.

In Japan, children take part in Undoukai and show off their athletic skills in friendly competition. It was no different during the recent Undoukai at Niji-Iro – more than 200 students in all grades put their best foot forward in a fun series of athletic challenges.

With more than 50 parents volunteering to organize and run the entire morning and afternoon of activities, Undoukai is a family event at the school.
