Sheila A. Alles
Chief Academic Officer
Mrs. Alles has been a member of the LPS family since 1996. During that time, she has served as elementary principal, Director of Elementary Programs, Director of Academic Services, and Chief Academic Officer.
In her current position as Chief Academic Officer, her oversight responsibilities include the K-12 Curriculum and Instruction Department; K-12 Student Assessment Department; Federal Programs Department including English Learner Program and McKinney-Vento; Informational and Instructional Technology Department; Pupil Accounting Department; and District provided Professional Development Programs.
She is also responsible for coordination and management of reporting requirements for District and School Accreditation for AdvancED and MDE; K-12 Textbook and Instructional Resource purchases; K-12 Classroom Technology purchases related to the 2013 Bond.
Mrs. Alles chairs multiple district-level committees, such as the Division of Instruction; Quality Assurance Review (QAR) Team, and Technology Bond Professional Development Committee. She is a member of the many district- level committees including the Superintendent’s Cabinet, District School Improvement Team (DSIT) and Teacher Evaluation Committee. She has led many district-level initiatives including preparing for the new online state assessment, M-STEP; transitioning to Illuminate, a data warehouse system; and district-level accreditation renewal through AdvancED.
Mrs. Alles represents Livonia Public Schools on various state and regional committees, such as the AdvancED State Council, Metro Bureau’s Council of Academic Leadership, Schoolcraft College’s Administrator Professional Development Team, Madonna University’s Teacher Education Committee, MDE’s Technology Improvement Team, and Wayne RESA’s Curriculum Council.
Her experiences also include consulting services to the College Board on the new PSAT and SAT reading tests and to ACT, Inc. on ACT reading tests.
Her previous employment experiences include twenty-one years with the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools as an elementary school and middle school teacher, ELA Department Chairperson, Curriculum Coordinator and Curriculum Director. She was also an Adjunct Professor in the College of Education for Madonna University for six years.
The Academic Services Department oversees the facilitation of the
curriculum, instruction and assessment offices. These departments
support school improvement initiatives and NCA processes, development
and implementation of the K-12curriculum, coordination and analysis of
student assessment programs, textbooks, and instructional materials
selection, and professional development opportunities.
